Melissa Penn
Business Manager & Environmental Lead

My background

I worked in the public sector for 13 years before moving to AG in 2022. My roles were predominantly providing EA support to senior directors and leaders. My career has however now taken a new and exciting direction with AG. I am now focused on measuring and reporting on AG’s impact on people and planet, and educating others through Carbon Literacy training. As an Impact Consultant, I also help businesses to understand their social and environmental goals, and helping them reporting on their impact through certifications including B Corp.

What I enjoy most about my work

I love working with a great team with a shared purpose! I enjoy educating others through Carbon Literacy and waiting for the ‘light bulb moment’ when participants realise the reality of climate change, but also understand the role they can play and actions they can take to minimise the effects of climate change. I am also an Excel geek! I get excited about our end of year reporting including measuring our carbon footprint, and enjoy being able to compare the data and see the amazing progress we are making every year.

Some of the companies I have worked with

Civil Service (Office of Fair Trading), The University of Manchester, Cancer Research UK, Stockport Council

My hope for the future

My hope for the future is to have people and planet positioned at the core of every business. I want businesses to recognise their influence on society, the environment and the economy, and use it consciously when making decisions.

What I love about AG Comms

There are so many things I love about AG Comms. I love working with a fantastic group of people who are always the biggest cheerleaders. Even though we work virtually, when we do get together in person it’s like catching up with old friends.

I love the genuine passion and determination that runs through the heart of AG and in everything we do. It inspires me every day knowing that I am working with people with the same ambition to ‘do the right thing’.

How does working for AG Comms support you?

The support from AG is like nothing I’ve ever received before. I am encouraged to do well and I am given the opportunities to develop in my role. I am recognised for the work that I do – even though praise does make me feel a little uncomfortable! 😉

The support for flexible working is invaluable. Working at AG means I never miss the important moments for my family. I can attend every football match, swimming lesson, dance class and school performance. This support helps to manage the dreaded ‘mum guilt’. It also enables me to take time out for myself to attend a yoga class or gym session during the day.
